In My Feelings

I am in the plane heading back home reminiscing. I am a little in my feelings right now, so I am just going to go ahead and let it all out.

For a second year, my job allowed me to be a part of the most important event in Latin music, Latin Grammys. Man I feel so blessed and so grateful. Getting to be a part of this award show is an absolute dream come true, that never, for a single second, do I take for granted. I know how special it is, and I know I am very fortunate to get to be a part of it.

I get asked all the time what I do for work, and I know my response is usually very general. I don’t really like to be detailed about my job, and I never mention where exactly I work simply because I am afraid. I have always had this weird superstition that saying where I work could bring bad energy from others, and that it is better to keep it a mystery. I also don’t want people to define who I am through a title or company. Now that I am writing this out, I realize how silly this way of thinking is, and that there is really no reason for me to be afraid. On the contrary, there is a lot to be proud of, and maybe what I share can hopefully help someone else.

I work Marketing and Promotions for Sony Music—US Latin in the West Coast. This means that I get to tap into a little of almost every department with nearly every artist on our roster. I get to be a part of everything from media and radio promotion, to music videos, single/album releases and award shows. Of course there is a lot more to it than this, with things that perhaps don’t sound as glamorous like coffee runs, 5am call times, sacrificing some family events, and endless hours of labor behind a computer to meet deadlines. It is certainly not an easy job, but it is definitely worth it, and I think that is the case when we do something we love.

All I can tell you is to work hard and fight for what you love because hard work pays off. If you really want something, giving up should not be an option. Accomplishing your goals and making your dreams come true takes sacrifice, perseverance, time, and a lot of discipline. Being in Vegas this past week reminded me that the vision for what I am working towards is slowly becoming a reality, even if I still have a lot to go. I am extremely grateful and proud of my journey, and I wanted to share this part of it with you.

Estoy en el avión de camino a casa reflexionando. Estoy un poco emocional, con mucho por dentro que quiero compartir con ustedes.

Por segundo año, mi trabajo me permitió formar parte del evento más importante de la música Latina, Latin Grammys. Wow no saben, me siento tan bendecida y agradecida. Poder ser parte de estos premios tan prestigiosos es todo un sueño hecho realidad. Sé que es algo muy especial, y sé que soy muy afortunada de poder formar parte de ellos.

Siempre me preguntan que, si cual es mi trabajo, y sé que mi respuesta es usualmente muy general.  Casi no me gusta hablar en detalle sobre lo que hago, y tampoco me gusta decir en donde trabajo porque tengo miedo. Siempre he tenido la rara superstición de que decir en donde trabajo me atraerá mala energía de otras personas, y que es mejor que sea un misterio. Tampoco quiero que la gente me defina por mi título ni la compañía en donde trabajo.  Ahora que escribo esto me doy cuenta lo ridículo que suena esta manera de pensar, y que la verdad, no tengo nada de que temer. Al contrario, hay mucho de lo cual estar orgullosas, y quizá compartir esto le ayude a alguien más.

Trabajo en Mercadotecnia y promociones para Sony Music—US Latin en la costa oeste. Esto significa que puedo hacer un poco de casi todo con la mayoría de nuestros artistas. Puedo formar parte de todo lo que viene siendo promoción de radio y medios, videos musicales, lanzamientos de sencillos/álbumes, y premios. Claro que el trabajo consiste de mucho mas, y también hay cosas quizá no suenan tan glamorosas como salir por el café, llamados de las 5am, sacrificar momentos familiares, y horas de trabajo detrás de una computadora para entregar el material a tiempo. Definitivamente no es un trabajo fácil, pero vale totalmente la pena, y pienso que ese es el caso cuando hacemos algo que amamos.

Lo único que les puedo decir es que trabajen y luchen por lo que aman porque todo sacrificio y esfuerzo tiene su recompensa. Si en verdad quieren algo, rendirse no es una opción. Lograr nuestras metas y hacer nuestros sueños realidad requiere sacrificio, perseverancia, tiempo y mucha disciplina. Estar en Vegas esta semana me recordó que la visión por lo que estoy trabajando, poco a poquito se está volviendo una realidad, aunque aún me falta mucho por lograr. Estoy demasiado agradecida y orgullosa de mi jornada, y solo quería compartir con ustedes esta parte de ella.

    I feel the same way, by not really saying what I do for a living!
    As I read you blog, I also realized that I don’t give myself enough credit of the amazing things that I have done in my radio career.
    People wouldn’t believe the shit that I have done!
    but I am glad that you were able to write down your feelings and like you said it might help someone and well it did! me…. it helped me realize that I should give myself credit for what I do.

    1. Hi!!!! It can be scary to share what you do on social media because you do not really know people’s intentions for knowing. I’ve learned that fear cannot stop me from doing what my heart tells me to, and that impacting people in a positive way is a lot more important than than the negativity from others. ALWAYS remember your journey, and how far you’ve come 🙂
